One of several hits from Sean Paul's 2002 album Dutty Rock, its lead single "Gimme the Light" was originally a product of "The Buzz", a new dancehall rhythm created by a fledgling Miami-based Jamaican production team known as Black Shadow in 2001. Later turned into a Diwali rhythm by producer Steven "Lenky" Marsden in 2002, the track immediately took off and became Paul's first hit single, peaking at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also becoming a top 20 hit in the Netherlands, UK and Canada.

A former member of the legendary Detroit 50's group The Falcons, the Alabama-born Wilson Pickett scored his first hit as a solo artist with the Pickett and Steve Cropper produced "In The Midnight Hour". Released on his 1965 album of the same name and also appearing on the 1966 album The Exciting Wilson Pickett, "In The Midnight Hour" reached #1 on the R&B charts and peaked at #21 on the pop charts.
