Originally written by rocker Mark Knopfler for his band Dire Straits, "Private Dander" (a sultry tune about a stripper who prefers to consider herself a 'private dancer'), was pitched to Tina Turner, in part, because it was thought that the song should be sung by a woman instead of a man. Turner, who was just making a comeback to music, quickly fell in love with the song and added it to her fifth solo album Private Dancer (1984). Produced by John Carter, "Private Dancer" was released as the album's fifth single. The track reached number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number three on the US R&B chart.

For those of you who read this blog, what would normally be a "Friday Night Throwback" in this space, will now be "Show-n-Prove Friday". This weekly slot will serve as an opportunity to showcase new and talented unsigned artists covering some of our favorite R&B jams. Selections will be based on the quality of the cover and presentation of the clip (it would also help if you wrote a couple of sentences about yourself, along with contact info, so we can let our readers know who you are).
For anyone interested in a chance to have their cover seen on this blog, please feel free to email your video to me at: email@example.com.
Starting next week "Friday Night Throwback" will be converted to the more appropriate "Thursday Throwback".
This week's Show-n-Prove sees a group by the name of Harmonious Monks covering The Internet's "Special Affair" inside USC music studios.

With 112's Slim dropping his sophomore solo album Refueled this week (after his 2008 effort, Love’s Crazy), we select his group's 1997 hit single "Cupid" as this week's Friday Night Throwback. The third and final single released from 112's debut album of the same name, "Cupid" (written by Arnold Hennings, produced by Hennings and others) peaked at number 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, 112's third top 40 hit on both charts. With unofficial frontman Slim providing the lead vocals, "Cupid" went on to be certified Platinum by the RIAA after selling 1,000,000 copies.
Check out the visuals from 112’s Slim single with Rich Homie Quan, entitled "Never Break Up".
