The second single released from Patti Labelle's 1991 album Burnin', "Somebody Loves You Baby (You Know Who It Is)" became a smash hit and a signature song for Labelle with its sultry and emotional vocals (as well as a stirring video which was shot at Harlem, New York's infamous Apollo Theater). Co-written by Labelle and former Philadelphia International artist Bunny Sigler, who also produced the song, the single would reach number two on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in early 1992.

Discovered by DJ Jazzy Jeff and record exec/manager/producer Benny Medina, Zhane (Renee Neufville and Jean Norris) stood apart from the 90's R&B scene with their versatile grooves and short bald ‘dos. The duo, who met while both were studying music at Philadelphia's Temple University, released their debut album, Pronounced Jah-Nay in 1994. The album would produce a trifecta of Top 40 hits ("Groove Thang" & "Sending My Love") as well as one of the top hip-hop party anthems of all time, "Hey, Mr. DJ". Produced by Naughty by Nature DJ Kay Gee and originally recorded and released on the compilation album Roll Wit tha Flava in 1993, "Hey, Mr. DJ" (which also featured a rap from Rottin Razkals member Fam) would peak at number six on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, go gold as a single and propel Pronounced Jah-Nay to platinum status.
UK producer Naughty Boy releases the video for his new single "Runnin' (Lose It All)", a new song featuring Beyoncé and Arrow Benjamin.

Produced by Walter Afanasieff, "Love Takes Time" was the second #1 song from Mariah Carey's self-titled debut album. Carey, along with songwriter Ben Marguiles wrote the ballad with the intention of adding it to her second album, Emotions. But her label liked it so much they stopped presses of her first album so it could be included. "Love Takes time" would reach number 1 in its ninth week on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three weeks at the top of the chart, from November 10 to 24, 1990. It spent seven weeks in the top ten and 17 weeks in the top 40 and the RIAA certified it gold.
